Position Statement on The Voice to Parliament Referendum

Barwon Community Legal Service wholeheartedly supports the Uluru Statement from the Heart and supports a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming First Nations Voice to Parliament referendum.

Our support for the ‘Yes’ vote is anchored in our vision for a just society where all people have equal access to, and status under the law and a legal system that is humane, fair and equitable.

We want improved outcomes for both First Nations people and all Australians. We believe that constitutional recognition and the establishment of a Voice to Parliament, holds the potential for enduring change and better outcomes by enabling First Nations communities to provide essential input into the laws and policies that affect them.

Working alongside Community Legal Centres throughout Victoria, we promote community members’ engagement with the referendum process and encourage them to actively listen and learn to ensure they can make a well-informed choice.

On October 14, 2023 we support a ‘Yes’ vote.
