Meet Jillian Chapman and Mikala McIntyre, the editors of the BCLS newsletter. This highly competitive pair are passionate about social justice and enjoy working on projects that positively impact the lives of community members living in Barwon South West region.
Jillian is the Community Education and Development Coordinator at BCLS. Jillian’s role is to effectively engage and work with the community to coordinate and implement community development, legal information and education activities. In addition to this role, Jillian supervises two of our new projects – the Seeking Refuge Project and Social Work Service.
Jillian has worked in the community legal centre sector for over 16 years including 7 years at BCLS. Jillian enjoys working on innovative and fun projects that educate the community about various laws. When Jillian is not working at BCLS she enjoys cooking anything sweet, camping and going to the beach.
Mikala is a Community Lawyer at BCLS and the new Family Violence Project Worker. In addition to her usual lawyer role of assisting clients and providing legal education to the community, as a Project Worker, Mikala also strives to enhance and expand the family violence service.
Mikala has worked at BCLS for almost 5 years, including a year as a student volunteer while studying at Deakin Uni.
Mikala is passionate about working on cases and projects that can create a real difference in the lives of clients and the community. When she is not working, Mikala loves playing netball, travelling, and is known to have mad cake decorating skills.
