Join us at the 2025 Changing Minds & Positive Ageing Expo — a free, welcoming event that celebrates older people, builds community connections, and shares practical support for ageing well.
The Barwon Elder Abuse Primary Prevention (BEAPP) Network and the Dementia Agency Network Geelong (DANG) invite the community to the 2025 Changing Minds & Positive Ageing Expo.
Now in its second year, this exciting and inclusive event focuses on celebrating positive ageing while helping people access the support and information they need to live well.
When: Friday 24 October 2025, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm
Where: Club Italia, Moolap
Cost: Free entry
The event coincides with the Victorian Seniors Festival, a month-long celebration of older Victorians with the theme: Connect, Create, Celebrate, highlighting the value of older people and the importance of community connection.
Breaking down barriers to support
Building a more connected community helps reduce isolation and fosters support networks that celebrate older people and help them live healthier, safer lives. The Expo brings together more than 30 service providers and community groups to engage with local residents to create opportunities for meaningful connection.
“The Expo strengthens our community by making local services more accessible and raising awareness about critical issues like elder abuse. It’s about empowering older people with the knowledge, support and connections they need to age with confidence and dignity,” says Bryanna Connell, CEO of Barwon Community Legal Service.
Expert speakers and community connections
The Expo will feature keynote speakers Dr Alastair Mander and Dr Lisa Mitchell, plus a panel of local experts from organisations including the National Ageing Research Institute, Better Place Australia, Barwon Community Legal Service, and Elder Rights Australia.
Attendees will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions, engage in meaningful conversations, and connect directly with service providers and community groups. The event helps break down barriers to participation and support, encouraging ongoing involvement and reducing social isolation.
Challenging ageism, preventing elder abuse
Social connection and access to community services are key to preventing elder abuse by addressing its root causes, such as isolation and lack of support. The Expo also challenges ageism, encouraging everyone to rethink how we view ageing and to challenge stereotypes and empower older adults to live their lives to the fullest.
The BEAPP Network is led by Barwon Community Legal Service and is one of eight networks supported by the Victorian Government to combat elder abuse through community awareness and prevention.
